A Cozy Autumn Story You Need to Read

Review: Contrary to popular belief, marriage does not just join two people together, rather it joins to families together. And the differences in the lifestyle and thought processes of these two parties, for better or worse, is definitely a sight to see. In ‘Divorced’, the author Mallory Brooke pens down an experience that she calls the “dark chapter” in her life, but she does so in a sarcastic and hilarious manner. And thus, the genres of comedy and drama are befitting for portraying the humorous nuances of the two families involved in what was supposed to be her dream marriage. And it is in that aspect that this work shines and through.

This is the author’s story: Her dream wedding to her dream man on a luxury cruise goes horribly wrong when her husband gets thrown overboard from the ship. Left to tend to the two families all on her own, what follows is a comedic and ridiculous dramatic episode that shatters her naïve and people-pleasing tendencies. Marriage is one of the life-changing decisions of an individual’s life, but people often idealize this, and when faced with the bitter truth, their happiness cascades into despair. But what the author acknowledges about herself is that: to err is human.

Every chapter ends with a tweet from the author’s social media platform, showing her influencer side. This work is truly autobiographical in the sense that the incidents mentioned in this book help you connect with the dilemmas of the author and thus draw you in. And the simple, honest and conversational language used also increases reliability and helps in creating intimacy. In conclusion, the book fulfils the role that the author had assigned to it; it tickles your bone and at the same time inspires the readers “to break free of whatever is holding them back in life.” Pick this up for a refreshing session of reading.

“Each of us is a book waiting to be written, and that book, if written, results in a person explained.”
