Beyond the Wand Book by Tom Felton

Have you ever wondered what it was like behind the scenes of the magical world of the Harry Potter movies? Look no further because I’ve got just the book for you…the magic and mayhem of growing up a wizard!

Tom Felton’s self-portrait of child stardom and adulthood aimlessness, follows beats not unlike the arc of his Harry Potter performances. As Slytherin bully Draco Malfoy, Felton delivered a requisite amount of sneering during the eight-movie series’ early installments, then cast a more nuanced spell in the last few films. Felton does drop endearing tidbits about the movies’ parade of British acting royalty. He then summons his demons and delves deeper in the final pages. That introspection, about Felton’s more recent struggles with drugs and alcohol. For a book so dominated by Harry Potter — down to the chapter titles, which are chock full of Easter eggs — it’s Felton’s experiences outside the Wizarding World that make “Beyond the Wand” worth reading. Still, if you don’t know a horcrux from a hippogriff, feel free to move along, you won’t understand about half of the book! 🙂

When we grow up and become an adult, eventually falling in love we don’t realize how much conditioned we are by the society to view relationships and their future in a certain way. Divorced is a bittersweet memoir that tells the story of author’s relationship with her husband, to whom she was married on paper but the physical wedding never happened. Her dream wedding on the cruise turned out to be a disaster. How and what went wrong? Read the book to find out!

The book is an engaging short memoir and while reading I felt like I was listening to a friend who was pouring her heart out to me. The book contains raw emotions that can be easily felt and I could empathize with the author. Through her story, we see how in love, we can ignore multiple red flags and choose to stay in a toxic relationship that is sooner or later bound to fall apart.

There is something about the writing style of the author that keeps you hooked to the story and you keep reading. The writing style is simple and honest, it is not pretentious which is something I really liked. The story itself is very interesting and gripping, containing many hidden lessons on love and relationships.

Overall, I really enjoyed reading this book, although the story is about a broken relationship it is told in a fun and interesting manner, keeping it honest and candid. If you want to read a fun and interesting memoir that is closer to reality and gives insight into love and relationships through an honest writing, this book would be a perfect choice

Each of us is a book waiting to be written, and that book, if written, results in a person explained.
